Ebullient

As 2007 draws to a close I am feeling most excited at the prospect of an evening out with some friends...two big babies, a fairy, King Arthur and a surgeon to name but a few :) I just wish everyone could be there.

There is no place like home!

Happy New Year

Dishabille

Finally, after what seems like the longest term in history, the Christmas holiday is upon us. I have spent the day catching up with myself and trying to recover from the usual end of term cold in time for Dan and Amy's wedding at the weekend. I have baked muffins, drank coffee and am now preparing to head off with Mary, muffins and christmas presents to the Gibson household for the rest of the afternoon. We shall drink coffee, eat cake and relish the fact that we are at home when our respective husbands are all still hard at work.

I have found the perfect fancy dress outfit for New Year's Eve - I wil be Dorothy! I have the dress, socks, shoes, hair and a truly perfect Toto in a basket handbag! I am sure Nick will take many a photo on the night so you may even get a sneaky peek!

A Christmas poem for you all from the wonderful Benjamin Zephania. I have been inspired by the many supermarket adverts featuring turkeys I have just had to watch in one single ad break...

Talking Turkeys by Benjamin Zephaniah

Be nice to yu turkeys dis christmas
Cos' turkeys just wanna hav fun
Turkeys are cool, turkeys are wicked
An every turkey has a Mum.
Be nice to yu turkeys dis christmas,
Don't eat it, keep it alive,
It could be yu mate, an not on your plate
Say, Yo! Turkey I'm on your side.
I got lots of friends who are turkeys
An all of dem fear christmas time,
Dey wanna enjoy it, dey say humans destroyed it
An humans are out of dere mind,
Yeah, I got lots of friends who are turkeys
Dey all hav a right to a life,
Not to be caged up an genetically made up
By any farmer an his wife.

Turkeys just wanna play reggae
Turkeys just wanna hip-hop
Can yu imagine a nice young turkey saying,
'I cannot wait for de chop',
Turkeys like getting presents, dey wanna watch christmas TV,
Turkeys hav brains an turkeys feel pain
In many ways like yu an me.

I once knew a turkey called...Turkey
He said "Benji explain to me please,
Who put de turkey in christmas
An what happens to christmas trees?",
I said "I am not too sure turkey
But it's nothing to do wid Christ Mass
Humans get greedy an waste more dan need be
An business men mek loadsa cash'.

Be nice to yu turkey dis christmas
Invite dem indoors fe sum greens
Let dem eat cake an let dem partake
In a plate of organic grown beans,
Be nice to yu turkey dis christmas
An spare dem de cut of de knife,
Join Turkeys United an dey'll be delighted
An yu will mek new friends 'FOR LIFE'.

Vicissitude

Well December is upon us and I am wondering how I seem to have missed the last year. It has gone by so swiftly that I am glad my lovely husband is permenantly stuck behind the camera, else I may not have remembered half of it!

Having sat and watched Christmas films today, I am filled with that end of year feeling and December always brings the inevitable look back at the year just gone. It has been a very eventful one. Lots of weddings, several babies born and at least one on the way, trips away to new horizons and familiar old ones, house moves, friends both new and old. I feel warmed when I think about it all.

December will be action packed for us. Currently filled with one wedding, two New Years Eve Parties, Christmas at three different sets of parents, dinner with family visiting from afar, gift delivery for friends in different places and hopefully at least a little bit of time to spend with my wonderful husband as we celebrate our first Christmas as a married couple. We will visit three different counties (having travelled through several more in the process) and make at least 4 road trips within the next four weeks. Also in the pipeline is one extremely girly wine and junk food evening, hopefully a singstar party and some sleep - there really must be some sleep in there at some point!

So, now just have to think of a fancy dress outfit for New Year! Hrm. So many options!
