Muse

Our trip to the new Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening was a big success. The stadium itself is quite something, but I was a little disappointed not to be more blown away by it like I was the first time I saw the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff. Our seats were very high and it took quite sometime to get my height head on but the views of the stage and therefore the pitch area were really quite fabulous.

Dan and Claire were lounging in the luxury of Club Level, with a carvery and champagne bar but Nick and I were happy with our warm beer in plastic cups, we didnt need the posh stuff!

The support acts left us cold but Muse themselves never fail us. Yet another fantastic performance full of old classics and new stuff. I had built them up so much over the last few years that I was concerned that Nick wouldn't think they lived up to the hype! I think he enjoyed it though, hope he did.

We opted for a late night walk to Dan's through Green Park and past Buckingham Palace. Seeing the sights of London at night without the throng of tourists was really nice.

So a big thanks to my lovely Nick for the tickets and to Dan and Claire for putting us up for the night.

Leitmotif

I have the best fiance in the world. Whilst some of you may think your partner is better, I am afraid that you are wrong. Plain and simple. Mine is best.

Having returned from my travels, I was provided with a takeaway for dinner so that no shopping or cooking was required and handed a cold glass of wine before I had even time to remove my shoes. He listened to all of my stories from the week (of which there were many) and placed me, exhausted on the sofa to relax.

Then, yesterday, he returned from work with pixie ears and a big smile. I was then surprised with two carefully wrapped pink 'welcome home' gifts. I excitedly opened the first of the two packages and found two tickets to next week's Muse gig at the new Wembley Stadium, complete with a prearranged overnight stay with my lovely brother and his lovely wife! After some disbelief, cooing and squeaking, I peeled back the tape on the second gift. Inside snuggled a gorgeous pink MP3 player. I had been very upset over the disappearance of my iPod Shuffle the week before and my lovely Nick decided to replace it with something wonderfully pink to cheer me up!

How lovely he is.

Sanctum

And so the wanderer returns. In case you had not been reading Nick's blog and were not aware, I have been away for a week with the children from school. It is something I love to do even though it means being on duty 24 hours a day and very little, if any sleep at all during the course of the week.

Day one saw us using a map and a compass to plan and execute a night walk up and over the hills that you can see in the background of this photo

It is very steep in places and not an easy walk for little people!

Day two involved a long hike from Swanage to Corfe Castle over Nine Barrow Down,

including a tour of the castle itself,

a ride on a steam train,

and ice-creams on the beach!

We also took part in archery, swimming, orienteering, climbing and team building exercises. We learnt how to swivel hip on the trampoline, solved a murder mystery, sang songs around the campfire and danced at the disco.

The weather was glorious and we have all returned with a healthy outdoor glow and some interesting tan lines!

The kids, as always, were a credit to us and their parents and though I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, it is always nice to be home.
