Prolific

I have not been all that prolific of late, so you are lucky people with two entries in one day!

This is largely due to the conicidental nature of a blog over at mr-f.org As you will see he handed it on to me so here goes...

Total volume of music on computer: Nanny informs me I have 24.9GB

The latest CD I purchased: The Magic Numbers

Song playing right now: Forever Lost, The Magic Numbers

Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:
I agree with Keith that this is a tough one.
I suppose it would be as follows:
Louie Louie - The Kingsmen as it reminds me of my childhood
Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns 'n Roses because it changed the music I listen to
Balham to Brooklyn - Turin Brakes as it reminds me of a certain time and that in turn reminds me how good things are now
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Judy Garland, as it always brings a tear to my eye
Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine because it takes me back to when life was simple.

Not great songs, just specific times and people.
Many come close and I still don't think this is the final list...how can I not include the likes of Metallica, The Cure, Muse, The Smiths or Radiohead for example?

It isn't fair to only let us have five! (*stamps foot)

So...Nik? Ian? Ryan? Carrie? Anthony? Anyone else fancy taking it on?

Exigent

I was asked the other day if I had to choose, would I choose to lose sight or hearing. A cheery conversation for a sunny Saturday afternoon I know! The general consensus was that you could feel music and therefore to lose hearing would be better than to lose sight. To me the question of losing music or literature was a tricky one. Those of you who know me, know how much I love to read - although I am not getting much time to do so at the moment. You will also know that music is a passion of mine.

Music has the power to change your emotions in an instant. It can take you back and forwards in time, put you in different places with different people. Certain songs that last all your life...'Louis Louis' by The Kingsmen for example, will always remind me of dancing round the kitchen with dad as he cooked fried egg sandwiches on a Sunday morning. Ian Dury's 'Hit me with your rhythm stick' of Mum, Dad and Dan trying to drag me out of my room to pogo with them one weekend afternoon. 'Come on Eileen' will always be Romford Ritzy and my best friend at school Jo, wherever we happened to be, if that came on we would find eachother. 'This Charming Man', driving in Brad's car, 'Champagne Supernova', my bedroom in my third year at Uni.

It can make you laugh, cry or want to stab someone but it will always invoke a reaction.

I have invested in a few new CD's lately, they all seem to come out in the same couple of weeks which is frustrating when you cant afford to buy so many in one go - which to choose?! For those who haven't, the new album from The Magic Numbers is pretty fine...a great summer record, kind of like The Kings of Leon with lyrics you can decipher :)

Got: Coldplay, White Stripes, BSP, Kaisers, The Magic Numbers
Need: Turin Brakes, Audioslave, Oasis, Gorillaz, Nine Black Alps, Foo Fighters (to name a few)
Swap: Swap? Is that not illegal? ;)

Apart from the Shins as recommended by Jules...what else do I need?

Reconstructed

Having noticed my Personal page still claimed I was twenty-nine, I thought it was time to update it.

So I did.

Feel free to add to the list :)

Heh

Thanks to whoever signed me up with the 'Wales Tourist Board' who mailed me due to the interest I expressed...

Hehe.

Funny.

I have offered to write them an article for their magazine.

Cacophony

Have you ever stood and listened to everything around you? Just paused for breath and taken in each sound? How many of the languages of the world do you understand? I do not mean standing in Canterbury at the height of summer and realising you can hear few people uttering the local dialect. So much is happening, so many things communicating with eachother. People, birds, cars, trees. So many sounds. How much of it do you absorb? How much of it do you understand?

I have always known that my comprehension of such things is limited. I stood today and listened. I tried to hear what was being said. I heard nothing. It seemed as if everybody and everything was speaking a different language and there I sat on my island soaking it all up but taking nothing in.

I am not so sure it is all that bad a thing. Perhaps I am best off not knowing.

Ignorance is bliss don't they say?

Fetter

Ashley lies asleep on the floor, upside down, paws in the air. His black fur shining in the sunshine that pours through the window. Periodically he purrs a strange pigeon noise, twitches his toes and flicks his thin dark whiskers.

Freddie is curled up on the chair, perfect paws tucked in as usual. Her stripy tail tucked over her toes. She dozes in the warmth of the cushions, motionless except for the rising of her chest as she breathes. Almost silent.

They have no worries, no words to analyse, no intentions to determine. Just three questions:

1. When will I be fed next?
2. Where is the litter box?
3. Will anyone play stick/mouse with me?

Aside from that they are free.

Right now, I envy them.
