Thank you

Thank you for your joke contributions. Keep them coming in :)

So bank holiday weekend and half term. As usual I have done nothing at all this weekend. Watched the play off finals, did some housework, watched the Grand Prix (predictable outcome again) and then some tennis. We are all supposed to be hailing Tim 'nice but dim' Henman for being the first British man to reach the last eight at the French Open since 1971...but let's face it he has come from two sets down twice and went to 9-7 in the final set today...he is exhausted and it is not as if he is cruising through...he will go storming out in a black cloud of underachievement as usual I should think.

I am going to head into work tomorrow as our caretaker has swapped her bank holiday so she can have a day off with her husband. That way I can pick up the charger for Pygmy2 and identify the drivers for the graphics cards that I need. That would at least be one job from my list ticked off, which will leave me four days to do ALL the rest. Who knows? If things work out then maybe even have a coffee with someone new while I am there :)

Have not updated anyone on the cats of late...they are fine and are currently jumping at what looks like thin air with lots of noise and excitement. I am assuming there is a moth or something similar that I can not see. They are enjoying themselves whatever it is :)

Right then updates to keep the whingers happy - but as I have done very little there is very little to update with! Sorry about that - kx

Sad day in the world of cricket

Well, it is a sad day. The lovely Nasser Hussain is retiring from cricket :'( He has been a hero both for Essex and England in his time and things wont be the same without him. Sorry to see you go Nass :'(

A day of mixed news at work as I discover that I fit into a t-shirt aged 7-8 for tomorrow's non-uniform day, and am told yet more people are in to observe us after half term. We are tired and could do with a break :(

Oh, and I need some jokes for use in the school play...if anyone knows a CLEAN joke about a rat, or pig, or spider can you let me know? Thanks :)

It has been a while...

...but it appears to be the 15th anniversary of THAT win at Anfield. I remember many things about that night. Praying in the bathroom with ten minutes to go, my father pacing the floor and the absolute and total elation when Mickey Thomas/John Burke put that goal away. Those who know me well enough will understand what I mean :)

What a memory. 15 Years though! I am too old :(

Do you remember it? 2-0 on the night to take the title? MT in the 35th second of injury time?

*sigh

Was pure footballing perfection.

Burnt knees and a sore back

...most of you will think my luck must have changed? Sadly not! The burnt knees and the sore back come not from anything remotely interesting but from a day of cable management type stuff in the IT room. I have crawled and cabled and tied and fixed and sneezed and coughed all day!

I thought my job was teaching?

I have drawn Denmark in the charity sweepstake at work. What do you think on my chances? The charity we are supporting is typical of me really :D I wonder who decided on that one this term then? hrm ;)

The sun is fading from it's earlier purple and amber to the iridescent blues of the evening. Where has the day gone? Where have the last 29 years gone come to that?

Helpful hints: Don't wear skirts when crawling around on a nylon carpet and always water your cabbages regardless of whether it looks like rain!

Please note:

Before I commence...

Please change all O's in previous references to Ovendoor to a lower case 'o'

Thank you.

erm... apart from well done Nas and England for a great finish (that I missed other than a window in the corner of my laptop)...that's all the safe stuff to share for today.

Sunday

A reluctant but sporting well done to Utd for their cup win yesterday. I wont mention the offside third goal of course ;)

Have spent today feeling poorly with this nasty rotten cold and watching cricket. Some very exciting play today both from the bat and in the field. It is that which frustrates me most about cricket. I have invested many hours this weekend, both yesterday and today watching the play...it is poised for an equally good last day...and where will I, and most of the other cricket loving part of the population be during this? At work, unable to watch/attend of course!

Still, when you have Nas, Freddie and Vettori for added entertainment it is surely worth the investment regardless of missing the ending! ;)

F1 decided to prove me wrong today - with a significantly more interesting race in Monaco, it is always a bonus when Shumi has something to have a tantrum about!

So anyway, the sun has been out. I have not, but I have learned what a parsnip leaf looks like. Which I am sure will save my life one day.

One week until half term *sigh

May 22, 2004

Told you so :)

I was discussing Arsenal's disciplinary record the other night and it was pointed out that we had the same number of red cards as Utd and more yellows. It would be interesting to note at this point this. Not only did I clearly behave impeccably when in my seat in the West Stand to ensure that the supporters finished top of their fair play league...also the team finished top of theirs. I think we got bonus points for the Horseface/Keown incident ;)

Woke up Thursday with a nasty sore throat and now feeling pretty rough. That will teach me for saying I had not been ill for a while wont it? That coupled with hayfever is not making a nice mix :(

An evening of odd text messages last night - one saying mother had been arrested for breach of the peace. She had not, it was her mate being 'funny'. The most amusing thing was that I believed it, was not suprised and just thought 'What has she done now? A few from Ryan saying he had been asked to audition for an 'adult' film and should he go for it? Finally, also from Ryan saying he was on the 2304 to Herne Bay and could he stay the night. In amongst this were a few beers with the newly appointed Mary (well done!) and Matt.

Everywhere is a bundle of stress and emotion at the moment...the FA Cup Final is not going to help on that front is it?

Come on Millwall!

Turning to face the sun

There are those odd days when realisation dawns. It does not always help your frame of mind/mood/situation...but it does lead you to make a decision about yourself. I read something today that showed a degree of arrogance not really noticed before. There are those days when you suddenly see that you have not been allowed to shine at what you do best - and that maybe, just maybe - if they can not see how good you are then it is their loss. That you are worth more than that. Let them stew in their ignorance...while you sparkle somewhere else.

The day is sunny and bright and as it is Wednesday I am off for the usual evening out, this week with an added guest. However, footie, beer and girly shoes could be a dangerous combination!

Btw - I don't care what anyone else says - and I know Mary will agree- He is genius plain and simple...no one writes lyrics like him.

'...some girls are bigger than others, some girl's mothers are bigger than other girl's mothers...' Genius :)

Ok, it was a dress and it was girly. What of it?

Ok, so I may not be the most girly of girls to have wandered the Earth - but I would like to think I can be a little bit feminine at times (when not talking football and swigging pints;) )? So why was it that in wearing a dress today everyone I came across felt the need to express surprise at my apparent 'girliness'...'Hello Kary, you look erm, really nice today' Thanks - but why the element of surprise? 'Miss H! You are wearing a dress! It looks nice! You look like a girl' Yes, I am a girl, always have been! I wear skirts almost all the time, surely a dress isn't all that different?

I didn't mind all this as everyone seemed to think a little girliness was just fine...imagine however, non girly me, inexperiened in the art of girly shoes, wandering around a muddy garden in search of frogs with two small people, sinking further into the mud before discovering the decking. Then getting her heel stuck and having to be held up by the two aforementioned small people as she removed her shoe from the wood. The two small people found this highly amusing as Miss H tried to negotiate the wood, the mud and the stinging nettles and there were no frogs there anyway...just a dead looking water snail. Or perhaps a girly land snail who got her heel caught in the water lillies and tumbled in!?

All I needed was a stupid handbag to complete the picture of PGW patheticness
(not sure that is a word but it fits them perfectly)

Being a girl is too much like hardwork for me.

On the bright side of the road...

Back from an exhausting day in Highbury, slightly pinker and very tired. Engineering works meant that I was awaiting a replacement bus service at Herne Bay station at 10 past 7 this morning. Managed to get to Highbury for 10 and then the party began :)

I had left the camera charger at work so I was running on fumes. Which meant that after all the waiting the buses arrive with Henry, Paddy, Freddie etc on the front and the camera refused to play ball - came back to life when Cygan was there to be snapped though! Typical! So I apologise for the quality of the photos and the fact that Cygan features in one or two ;)

I am shattered now so am going to return to my sleep.

Muhahahaha

Beat us in the Premiership? You can try!

Stand back and enjoy history in the making - you wont see this again for a long time - Well done boys - you did us proud! See you in the morning :D

Thanks to Ovendoor for his updates through the day - I think I would have been going spare if not for that!

:D :D :D

Oh and how many red cards was it Matt? ;)

Apologies

For those of you who know Spanish, I have an apology to make today...Jose Anthonio Reyes is in fact a 'muchacho descarado' not as previously stated, a 'descarado muchacho' Silly me! ;)

Hello to Ian, not to be confused with Ian/Ovendoor - from here on in - Ian is Ian, Ovendoor is Ovendoor. Does that help Ian?

Cheers to Ian, Ian's dad and Matt for a nice evening in the country last night :)

Nothing else to report, just work work work...

The Goats are Coming...

The goats are indeed on their way...For readers connected with work and not in my class...no, I am STILL not telling you what that is all about ;) Just keep watching!

Thank you to a very bad N for the flowers today. You caused much amusement for my class and the staff. In Arsenal colours too? You are too clever ;)

If you have noticed the comments posted on previous entries that are not appropriate or relevant, my apologies but someone has been using this blog to leave messages advertising their substance of choice. I have banned their IP and you should not be subjected to that any more. Have these people really nothing better to do? *sigh

Mother's birthday today - so 'happy birthday Mummy!' Over there at some point this weekend and then as I have to avoid where I live due to tourists again, I may head off elsewhere if the circumstances permit.

Hello to the 'long haired poet' as you have discovered speckledgoat - and I am sorry, (still) about the darts ;) Hope I didn't offend with my 'Art' comment, I like the poems - it was the photos that scared me :)

...finally a get well to my brother as he has had the first stage of his knee op...it will be fine :(

Seems to be a day of thank you and hello messages today! Anyone I missed? If you feel aggrieved let me know ;)

It is a sad, sad day

You join me with a heavy heart today. In an earlier entry I mentioned that a childhood icon had died recently but it is with an even sadder heart that I report the news of another passing.

As a child I used to look forward to his seasonal appearances on children's television, used to marvel at the love and care he brought out in others. He had a long and impressive TV career - twenty-two years in the spotlight no less and many a time 'get back in your box' was heard, which still brings a cheer to my heart.

Yet, it is with a heavy heart and a tear in my eye, that I regret to inform you of the passing of George, the Blue Peter tortoise :'( Please remember him fondly and take a quiet moment to yourself to think of his smile, that tough shell he lived beneath and the moment he awoke every spring.

(Has he a Nazi past that I should know about too Ryan?)

Jose Antonio

Edwin Van der Sar had the ball at his feet and up popped our descarado muchacho (I have Spanish GCSE ;) ) - who made off with the ball and placed it gently into the back of the net... oh dear me...poor Edwin. The game finished 1-0 to the Arsenal and we are now within 90 minutes of an amazing record. Just when my nails had grown long too. The women could seal their double after the Leicester game next week - Shame I don't have the ticket that week - double bubble as some of my Essex acquaintances might say...the womens result is important as any one of three teams can take the title - if we win it's ours, if Fulham win it's theirs and if we draw it goes to Charlton. Close then!

(note: Although I have Spanish GCSE, I did not do all that much as our teacher spoke no Spanish (no really!) so I looked that up - not my fault if it is wrong ;) )

After the girl of the other day..

..things go back to normal. No fear - no fluffy animals here today :) Instead more football....

Thanks to Ryan who pointed me in the direction of this story yesterday. Just shows the quality of barman found in and around the Arsenal...which brings me back to Gadget...hrm what great things may he achieve in years to come? For those who have met him answers on a postcard please ;)

Watched the Grand Prix today although it was a waste of time as the result was predictably dull - I am going off F1 these days - there's no challenge to it anymore.

Fingers crossed for Arsenal at Fulham later...

Foxy Lady

An interesting fact from the BBC today...

'The gene for red hair is the same gene that gives red setters, red foxes and red highland cattle their colour. '

Does that make me a foxy lady after all? ;)

(Please note: I am ignoring the possiblity it makes me a dog or a cow ;))

Fulham at the weekend - fingers crossed on that unbeaten run...two to go!

Thanks to Ovendoor for pointing out that my comments were still disabled from the other day...is all ok now..not that he reads it of course ;)

This evening we say goodbye to Chelsea from the Champions league...(stifles a smile) and well done to England's cricketers.

Phew

A close run thing this evening at Fratten Park. Portsmouth gave us a tough time of it...finished in a 1-1 draw to keep our unbeaten run going with just two games to go...can they do it? They are looking increasingly nervous it has to be said :/ As am I!
Ash and Freddie are here, purring away. They have been quite subdued of late apart from the whacky races incident of the weekend. Usually they miss, not this time though and two cats complete the Herne Bay Grand Prix across my head - then look at me like it is my fault my head is bleeding! For the record? Freddie took the checkered flag ;)

Time is ticking on and we find ourselves back to square one. Always a pity that. Never mind though eh... we keep bouncing back says mother :)

Champions #3

Well done to Arsenal Ladies for an emphatic win over Charlton in the FA Womens Cup Final. They put the men to shame today - Our hat-trick heroine Julie Fleeting played an international yesterday and the cup final today...fixture congestion? Good on you :) Just need a win over Fulham in the last game of the season to take another double - go on girls!

May 02, 2004

Champions #2

Went to the Arsenal yesterday, this time with mother which was nice for a change. Even though she insisted on telling lots of people she was my mum ;) Atmopshere was great as it was the first home game since taking the title. Shame the game was a bit dull really. Still unbeaten though and we did mangage to get Keown on even it it was close. Visited the World's End after the game rather than before as it was an early KO and the wonder that is Gadget was smooth enough to ask me for ID - bless him, then to call me by my name for every order after and to inform me I was just the right age for him...etc.etc Shame I wont be back there until next season now ;)

Many amusing people on the train on the way home - including a trio of 'individuals' from what they called 'acne' which one assumes is 'Hackney' A chap walked past and thanked them for moving aside in a rather effeminate voice, they were being very homophobic so, being me I asked them why it was an issue. Silence. Much blinking. 'erm' more silence. 'dont know really' It probably didnt help that I was reading a copy of Maxim that was being handed out outside the Arsenal as I had read the programme and finished my book...but they could not give me an answer as to why it was an issue - I was happy. They continued their amusing discussions on being from 'acne' and how hard that made them compared to the country bumpkins on the train and then one asked if we were in Kent yet. I replied yes and the girl became most excited and tried to spot what I can only assume must be what she considered countryside from the windows. Then the two lads competitive side must have kicked in as an attempt to win fair maidens heart and they began to boast about the places in Kent they had been...'yeah, I bin to Sittingbourne innit' says one. 'Yi I bin to Dartford innit, that's near Kent.' You can imagine my amusement - 'Near Kent?' I asked, 'not in it?' More blinking as this question was digested...was 'innit' a proper noun and somewhere they had not heard of? 'yeah near innit?' said a now much smaller voice., 'or maybe innit' my turn to blink as I attempted to work out whether 'innit' was 'innit', 'Innit' or 'in it' ;) Bless them. It's not their fault. They alighted at Sittingbourne with wide excited eyes at the prospect of being in the country. Oh how disappointed they must have been :) I must have been like that once ;)

Today is quiet. Tomorrow brings mother.
