Casualty

We have been to Casualty this morning.

Having woken all too early from a splendid night out with splendid people last night, I felt a tickle, then the world seemed to alter in volume and position somehow. A short investigation later and I find that my earring had somehow managed to fall into my ear! It is surprisingly painful having a stud earring inside your ear I can tell you! Knowing not to dig about with anything smaller than your elbow, I tried shaking my head lots at many different angles, to varying degrees of violence. This was not fun with a morning after head on! Undoubtedly good entertainment for Nik however.

So with some embarrassment we head off to the hospital to have it removed, every time it shifted making me feel very nauseous and swallowing was damn painful!

Surprised to find a waiting room empty but for one person we were in and out in less than half an hour! The episode was more amusing for the fact that they took me thorough to paediatrics, as it is generally children and not fully grown adults that get things stuck in their ears! The extraction was painful and a sensation that I do not wish to repeat any time soon but thankfully was made all the easier for Nik expertly assisting the nurse in her surgery. I am instructed to take pain killers and keep it dry for a few days, otherwise all is ok.

I am almost disappointed that they did not wheel me in, extract the offending item and then discover a whole catalogue of other ailments like they do in Casualty every week, it is always the one with the silly injury that dies!

I wonder where the back of the earring ended up?

But a lesson to us all. Do not sleep with your earrings in!
