Cacophony
Have you ever stood and listened to everything around you? Just paused for breath and taken in each sound? How many of the languages of the world do you understand? I do not mean standing in Canterbury at the height of summer and realising you can hear few people uttering the local dialect. So much is happening, so many things communicating with eachother. People, birds, cars, trees. So many sounds. How much of it do you absorb? How much of it do you understand?
I have always known that my comprehension of such things is limited. I stood today and listened. I tried to hear what was being said. I heard nothing. It seemed as if everybody and everything was speaking a different language and there I sat on my island soaking it all up but taking nothing in.
I am not so sure it is all that bad a thing. Perhaps I am best off not knowing.
Ignorance is bliss don't they say?
